Grasping At Impossible
Chapter 3:
I awoke the next morning to the sounds of vibrations coming from beside my bed. I groaned and rolled over to my stomach, pulling a pillow over my head. Just five more minutes, I asked no one silently. The sound stopped and I was about to fall back asleep when I heard a pounding at the front door. I ignored it at first, and after a few minutes there was silence. Without any warning, I felt a hand come up and touch my face.
I flipped over ready to kill whoever was in my room, but of course it was the one person I would never send to their death. "What the fuck Lafayette?"
"Why hello sexy. Good morning to you too," he cooed, taking a seat beside me on the bed. He was the only one who could get away with this intrusion of privacy. Lafayette had been my best friend since the second grade. We hated each other on the spot, but soon were inseparable. Him being gay never did bother me much, seeing that he wouldn't be hitting or competing with me for the ladies' attentions. He proved himself to be a brother, even without the blood tie behind it. No matter what happened in life, we always had each other's backs, and we were openly opinionated with one another. Meaning I would tell him how it is no matter how much it would hurt him. That is one of the reasons we were such good friends, there was no bullshit in our relationship, and there never would be. He was the only one who knew the true me that I would never show anyone else, not even my cousin Bill, who knew a lot about me.
"Laff, why are you here? Can't you see I am trying to sleep?" I said sitting up. I saw now that he had something in his hand, and I took it greedily from him. It was my favorite coffee, and he would never tell me where he got it. He could be such an asshole sometimes.
"That's it sugar, drink up."
I glared at him. "You know I hate when you call me that shit, so stop it."
"Aw common baby, you know you like it. You have since I met you," Laff said, and his eyes sparkled with amusement.
"You still haven't answered me. Why you are here?"
He stood and walked over to the oak dresser that had a mirror attached to the top. He looked as though he was fixing his make-up, something I have teased him about since day one, and he caught my eye in the mirror.
"Bill called me."
I groaned. "Do I even want to know why?" I asked, and I knew what was coming.
"He told me something I swore I would never hear in all my life," he said taking out some lip gloss and coating it on his lips. He smacked them together and continued, "He said you got turned down by a woman, and soon after screamed out her name with another woman in your office. Is that true?"
"You do know you are wearing lipstick for gods sake? Why don't you go get your package nicked off if you are going to go overboard with this gay shit?" I said, trying to divert his attention from last nights activities. It was true I did that, but I wasn't in the mood to talk about Sookie. Just thinking about her got me hard, and I really didn't want to have to do this all over again.
Laff turned around and gave me a hard stare, telling me that I was shit and to just get on with answering. "I know you don't mean that, now go on. I want to hear about her."
I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. "What do you want to know?"
"Everything," he said, simply taking a seat back on my bed.
"Can we do this over breakfast? My stomach feels like it is going to hurl at the moment."
"Fine, go shower and brush your teeth, then we will go eat. You have twenty minutes," he said, giving in to my request. I knew there was no way around him, just as if I wanted to know something about his life, he couldn't avoid my questioning. We promised each other a long time ago when we were still kids, that we would never lie to each other and tell the absolute truth. Laff was a great secret keeper when it came to me, and I knew he wouldn't do anything to ruin our friendship, so I was preparing myself for all the things I would go through and tell him, while I jumped under the hot stream of water. Letting it run over my body, I quickly washed my hair and soaped up. When I came out of the bathroom, my clothes were already on the bed waiting for me, and I snorted.
"Laff, I can pick out my own clothing!" I shouted, and could hear him laugh from somewhere in the house. I threw the shirt he picked out on, and pulled on the pants, not bothering with underwear. To me, it wasn't as comfortable as going free. Besides, having one less layer of clothing comes in handy when the mood strikes me to fuck. Easy access isn't always a bad thing.
I came down the hall with my coffee in hand and saw Lafayette sprawled on my couch watching a show, and he quickly turned it off and went to the door when he heard me coming. He was standing there with my keys in hand, looking rather impatient I might add. I put on my shoes, and then we were out the door.
He walked over to the driver's side and I shook my head, holding out my hand. "Give me the keys."
He pouted. "Aw common. I really want to drive. You promised me when you bought it I could and you still haven't let me."
I held my hand out and gave him my best stern look. I couldn't be brought down by a woman looking at me that way, what would make him think a man could make me change my mind? "Keys now."
He handed them to me, and we got in the car and drove to the nearby diner called Kelly's. It had pretty much anything you want to eat at anytime of the day. I parked in a spot I could see from inside, so I could watch my car as we ate. I didn't trust anyone to be around that vehicle. I had it since high school and it was my baby. That Impala has seen so many nights of pleasure it is by no means a virgin. It was the place I first touched a girls breast, so why the hell would I get rid of something with so many memories. We walked in and we were greeted by a cute red head that looked familiar.
"Hi Eric!" she said as I approached the hostess booth. "How have you been?"
Laff came into view beside me, and I saw him shake his head. "I am doing fine. Table for two, smoking," I said, trying to avoid her questions. This was a woman I fucked for sure, but I was at a loss for her name. Really, I didn't need to remember, and clearly she wasn't that great if I couldn't. She must have been a one-night stand.
"Follow me," she said pushing her chest out when coming from behind the standing booth. She grazed me as she walked by, but I ignored her attempts. The only thing I wanted at that moment was to feed my stomach, not my sexual needs. Besides, I wasn't sure if having her again would be a good idea. She seemed like the kind that gets attached once you have them.
We walked to the smoking section and both slid into the booth as she handed us our menus. "It was great seeing you Eric. Maybe we can get together sometime, maybe this weekend?" The girl was pretty and had really nice breasts and ass from what I could make out, but she wasn't what I wanted, not by a long shot.
"I don't think so," I said, looking her straight in the eyes. She seemed confused.
"Are you sure?" she asked, sounding dejected.
"If I didn't bother calling you after the first time, I won't be calling you at all." I turned to my menu, ignoring her.
"Your waitress will be right with you," she eked out, and I could hear the upset in her voice. She disappeared after that.
I looked up and saw Laff lighting two cigarettes, and then handed me one of them. "Eric you are the most cold hearted bastard I have ever met."
I snorted and decided what I wanted from the menu. The waitress came over, took our orders, and left coffee at the table. I took a few draws from my cigarette and looked around the place, ignoring Lafayette's continuing gaze boring into my head. "You can only ignore me so long. So make this easier on both of us and just tell me about this angel you met last night that has your panties in a twist."
I took one last draw on my cigarette and put it out on the ashtray in front of me. "Nothing really to tell. She refused my advances and then left. End of story."
Lafayette chuckled. "Yeah right. I can tell it was nothing from how you are acting. You know better than to lie to me bitch. Now tell me what happened."
"Where to start..." I said to myself while taking a breath.
"When you first saw her will work. Close your eyes and tell me what happened," Lafayette said. I could tell he was going to help me through this and get it all out, as much as I didn't want to talk about what this girl did to me. Why is it that when I close my eyes I can get my emotions out better than having to look at him when I tell him what I really thought?
I put my hands over my face and leaned my elbows on the table, thinking back to the first time I saw her. "She walked in, and she looked like a glowing angel in that hell hole of a bar. Like she was there to save someone."
"What was she wearing?" he asked, and I smiled against my hands.
"A pink dress with high heels. She had blond hair and blue eyes, if you need to know that as well," I mumbled.
"How did you feel when you talked to her?"
I looked up from my hands. "What do you think I felt? I wanted to fuck her bad, make her come over and over again, and she turned me down - the bitch."
Laff let out a frustrated sigh. "Eric what the hell is wrong with you? Get back with the program. What was the whole deal of calling out her name last night when you were with a skank ho instead? Did you forget her name as well?" he said, glancing over my shoulder and looking at the hostess briefly. I didn't bother turning around and looking at her face.
"Of course I remember her name," I sneered, and then the waitress came over with our food.
When she left Laff asked, "Eric what did you see when you saw her while you were doing the other girl?" he asked getting the ketchup and smearing it on his eggs. Gross.
"I saw her doing what Barbara was doing to me," I answered after taking a huge bite of my burger.
"This girl has you all wound up doesn't she? Funny really, I never thought you would think so much of one girl you just met not even twenty-four hours ago," he asked raising his eyebrow. I stuffed my mouth more with another bite, refusing to answer to that comment. We ate in silence and I paid for the bill after Laff made some comment about me being his bitch. He gave me a fucking glare after that so I didn't bother to argue with him. We got back in the car and I told him I needed to go to the market to get a few things. Lafayette, of course, had no problem tagging along, and I didn't mind his company.
"So what are you going to do about the girl?" he asked me as we walked into the market, and I grabbed a small basket.
"The only thing I can. Find her and fuck her so she is out of my system," I said bluntly and noticed an older woman in front of me gasp and I passed by her, not looking at her.
"That's my boy. Do you know where she lives?"
"No, but I will find out. I have my ways," I said as we turned down the personal hygiene isle. I grabbed a box of condoms and placed them into the basket. I saw they had a sale on lubricant and tossed a few of those in as well.
Lafayette saw how many I was throwing in the small basket. "What the fuck Eric? Expecting to have an orgy? If so, don't forget to invite me."
I laughed, and we headed down another isle to get my favorite ice cream when I saw her. I swear my breath stopped when I took in her form, wearing low-rise blue jeans that had tears in all the right places and a white halter top. Her hair was pulled back, showing off her long, succulent neck, and she wasn't wearing a bra. Well, fuck me.
I was standing still in the middle of the isle when Lafayette broke my trance. "Eric? Hello? Get your ass moving."
As soon as my name passed his lips, she looked over in my direction, and her mouth opened slightly as she took me in. Fuck was she hot. I couldn't get it in my head that I needed to move, until I felt Laff pinch my ass.
"What the fuck man?" I snapped at him, and he followed where my eyes had once been.
"Ohh, is that the girl?" he asked, his voice lower than before. Well thank god he has some sort of brain in his head. She was still staring at me when I looked over at him.
"Yes it is."
She looked away when my eyes came back to hers, and opened the freezer and was looking for something, or trying to ignore my gaze. Whichever, I could care less, 'cause I was going to talk to her one way or another. I squared my shoulders, and felt Laff push me while staying by my side. I glared at him and he gave me a toothy grin. This should be interesting...
I came up beside her basket, and she was looking through the different ice cream selections. I knew she could hear me and knew I was behind her, so I cleared my throat. She stiffened, and I decided to be the first to say something.
"Hello Sookie."
I could hear her sigh, and she turned around. "Eric."
I was struck by her blue eyes staring back at me, and just like last night I imagined her in the place of the other girl. "How are you?" Ok that was lame, but really, for some fucking reason she made me nervous. I wanted her so fucking bad and didn't know what the hell to do. It had been so long since I'd had to try to get a woman, they always came easily to me without any work. I was a little rusty. The last time I could think of that I had to put any real effort into it was over seven years ago when I was a sophomore in college.
"I am fine," she answered and looked over at Lafayette. "Hi, I am Sookie Stackhouse," she said with her sweet accent. She said she lived around these parts last night, but I wasn't really paying attention when she told me where.
"My name is Lafayette you sweet thing. My dear man Eric said you were a looker, but I didn't think you looked like an angel," he gushed at her, and she blushed. I found myself jealous over the fact a gay man could do that to her, but she hadn't shown any sign I could. I wanted to beat the crap out of Lafayette, who was now kissing her hand.
She smiled. "It's nice to meet you."
"Sookie, I wanted to say I am sorry for last night. We got off on the wrong foot, and I want to see if you would give me another chance," I said sincerely, and wondered where the hell it came from. I guess I was a great actor and shit, cause her face softened towards me, and her eyes once again opened up to me. She seemed to like that, so I would have to remember that doing it makes her more agreeable. I needed a fucking spreadsheet if I had to keep notes on this shit.
"Of course Eric. I am all about giving people second chances," she said holding out her hand. I took it in mine, and kissed her palm softly, allowing my lips to linger there longer than I usually would.
"Then would you give me the pleasure of taking you out sometime? I would love to get to know you better," I said, and I saw the blush creep to her cheeks. Yes, this girl was going to be easy once I got her where I wanted her, I mused to myself. Deep down I felt a flutter of something, but I tamped it down. It felt strange and foreign to me.
"I would like that Eric," she said, taking a step closer to us, but her face clamped down when she looked down to my waist. At first I thought she could see the boner that was now, no doubt, sticking out of my pants. I was about to smile at the thought when she gasped and her face looked horrified. "What are you doing with all that?" she said pointing at the small basket filled with jellies and lubricants, not to mention a box of condoms.
"What do you mean?" I asked innocently, giving her a sly smile.
"What are you doing with a box of 300 condoms? Are you planning on using them all?" she blurted out, and covered her hand over her mouth. Laff looked in the basket and closer to the box.
"Damn Eric. That is the economy size," he commented, and laughed.
"Um...I need to go," Sookie said, and started to leave with her basket. I grabbed the handle and she stopped.
"You can't blame a man for wanting to be prepared," I told her, and she blushed more. She was so innocent, and I wondered if she ever talked about sex openly. I was sure the answer would be no. Wait, why did I care what she thinks? Get back with your game Northman. "You never know when you might need...more than one."
She looked up at me through her long eyelashes, and I reached out without even knowing it and touched her face, tucking a loose strand that came from her ponytail behind her ear. She stiffened at first, but slowly released her tension and smiled. "I guess not."
"If you two are done, Eric here needs to get me back. I have a waxing appointment at two," Lafayette interrupted.
Sookie took a step back from me, and pulled out a business card with her name on it. "Here is my number. I'll see you around," she said sweetly, and then walked away. I couldn't help it – I stared as her ass swayed side to side and her hair flowed back and forth with her every step. I shook my head once she was out of sight, and looked over at Laff who was sporting a shit-eating grin.
"Don't say it," I said, and started walking to the counter to pay for my items. Lafayette continued to look at me with his finger on his chin as I paid the clerk and walked out the doors. We got into the car, and when I drove onto the interstate he finally broke the silence.
"You got it bad sugar."
I stopped the car at the red light and looked over at him incredulously. "You cannot be serious."
He shook his head. "You do. I can see it when you look at her."
I punched the accelerator when the light turned green. "I don't know what you are talking about. I am putting on an act. The sooner she gets into my bed, the sooner it will all be over with," I said through clenched teeth. We pulled into my drive and I got out of the car, slamming the door.
"Then why are you so angry about it?" Laff asked, and I paused. Why was I? I didn't even know.
"Drop it," I said, waving the free hand that wasn't holding the bag.
"Admit it, you... dare I say, like her?" he said, and I growled.
"It isn't like that, I told you. She is a fuck, and that is all. She will be in and out in less than a week if all goes as planned," I said, and Lafayette's eyes bugged open.
"Eric, now that I've met her, that seems like a bad idea. She seems like a sweet, innocent girl, not the usual bar trash you pick up. You won't like yourself afterward," he said, and I knew he was right. She was innocent but there was something else about her that I couldn't put my finger on. I was so off on my game when I saw her again, it took me a minute to get back to the goal – to get her into my bed. The woman was driving me insane. If she would have yielded to me last night, I wouldn't be thinking about her, and I wouldn't be wanting to chase her around to get what I want.
"She will yield to me. I do not care about...feelings," I said, disgusted. I never really paid attention to them, and didn't see a need for them. Feelings were for women, not men; that was one thing I was sure of. They give you nothing but trouble.
"We will see about that," he said, and turned to walk to his car.
I unlocked my door, and threw the bag on the floor in the foyer. I dug through my pocket and placed all the contents into the small dish on the counter as I shucked out of my shoes. I saw the card she gave me, and it seemed she worked for a company called Dixie Photographer's Inc. It had her email address, and her work number along with her cell number printed side by side. I picked up the phone and decided to give her a call. I needed to be smooth about this. I dialed the number and immediately felt nerves come into my stomach. What the fuck was going on?
"Hello?" she answered, and sounded hesitant.
"Hi Sookie. It's Eric."
"Oh hi Eric! I didn't think you would call me so soon," she said happily. Why was she all happy? Because you are Eric Fucking Northman, and she wants your dick that is why.
"I wanted to make plans with you," I answered her. "How does tomorrow night sound?"
"I actually have plans tomorrow night. If you want we can meet for lunch instead," she offered, and I didn't know how to reply. She was saying she would rather keep her plans than go with me? Is this woman real? I was confused from the whole thing. Most women would think it a privilege to be fucked by me, and I was asking her out on a date. Something I haven't done in years. And that was only to get the woman to yield to me as well. Thinking about her answer, I wasn't sure if you could have sex with a girl after lunch, could you? I have heard of dinner then sex, but lunch? I would have to check with Lafayette.
"Um, sure that sounds good," I said. "I can pick you up if you would like."
"I will meet you. Call me in the morning and we can pick a place then," she said, and I heard voices in the background. "I have to go. I will talk to you tomorrow." Then she hung up on me.
I shook my head to clear it. Sookie was truly a very different girl from any other I have met and had. She would be a true challenge, but for that I liked her even more.
i am liking this story Eric so screwed.... Kristie
